Across the globe, interest rate hikes have been disrupting major currencies. One of the biggest questions is whether the pace of the hikes will continue – and if it is sustainable.
At Sibos 2022, Koral Araskin, Head of Liquidity Solutions, Institutional Cash Management at Deutsche Bank, spoke to FinextraTV about the impacts that this environment is having on the cash management business – as well as the opportunities that it can provide in the long and medium and short term.
In the video interview, Araskin explains that, on the one hand, central banks are reacting to the soaring inflation levels that markets are seeing around the world – and if this inflation continues to stay high, it will continue to fuel interest rate hikes across currencies. But, on the other hand, the spectre of recession has the potential to decelerate this process. The question for banks is: how do they manage this volatility and uncertainty?

SWIFT Go was launched in July 2021 and, while many banks have subscribed to the service, few have gone live thus far. Aimed at providing transparency and predictability of payment times, processing fees and amounts for low-value payments, the SWIFT Go initiative was originally designed for domestic payments but has now expanded its scope to encompass cross-border payments.
With the service competing for time and investment with many other market developments in the space, Nafisa Fayzullaeva-Michler, Clearing Solutions Specialist, Institutional Cash Management, Deutsche Bank, spoke to FinextraTV at Sibos 2022, about Deutsche Bank’s stance on SWIFT Go, its competitive prospects in the payments market and its place in the future of cross-border payments.

One of the banking industry’s biggest priorities in recent years has been the enablement of fast, frictionless, and secure cross-border payments – with the G20 treating this as a priority.
At Sibos 2022, Dean Sposito, Head of Institutional Cash Management, Western Europe, Deutsche Bank, spoke to FinextraTV, offering a perspective on the G20 Roadmap for enhancing cross-border payments, as well as the developments that have taken place within the banking ecosystem so far.
According to Sposito, the cross-border payments industry is looking to solve four main roadblocks: cost, transparency, speed, and access. So far, there have been a lot of developments. SWIFT gpi, for instance, was a breakthrough moment in terms of speed and tracking, while the ISO 20022 migration will bring further transparency through richer, more structured data. But the journey is still at its beginning, and there is a lot more work to do to achieve the objectives of the G20 Roadmap – especially when it comes to financial inclusion.
